Smoking kills more people in a year than almost anything else. In fact, 443,000 people in the US alone die from smoking causes. However, it's not too late; you can still quit. Here are some ways to quit smoking:
Patches: This is going to be more expensive than most treatments, but it can be well worth it. How it works is there are usually three steps (two if you smoke less than half a pack a day). Each step lasts about a week. After you're done with that step, you buy the next one until you reach the third step. Each one averages around 20-50 dollars each. Still, it's worth the price as it is a great way to kick the habit.
Chewing Gum: The gum is almost exactly the same as using the patches, except, of course, you chew it instead. The price is around the same as well, and there are certain steps you must follow until you are finally cured. The success rate is pretty high; however, there is a slight chance you might become addicted to the gum instead of to smoking.
Hypnosis: Hypnosis is a cheap and easy way to quit smoking. All you have to do is show up. Most people are cured once they're done with their session. However, the problem is that the success rate is only 75 percent, leaving a 25 percent chance it might not work. Still, for the price, it's well worth a shot.
Doing something else besides smoking: One might say, "Isn't this cold turkey?" Well not exactly, but we'll get to cold turkey later. What I mean is do something instead of smoking. Go for a walk outside, have a cough drop, go to the gym...in other words, do something that will create a certain addiction to replace smoking. Although it's not highly recommended because you'll be developing another form of addiction, it's indeed a cheap way to quit.
Cold Turkey: Only 1/3rd of smoking quitters can do it, but it is the cheapest way to stop smoking. Of course, the withdrawals are going to be very challenging to overcome, but then again, you don't have to spend anything. In fact, in the short and long run, you are saving X amount of dollars per year depending on how many packs you smoke on average per day.
